Ontake Distillery – Nishi Sake Brewery

Mount Ontake is the general term for the three peaks of Mt. Kitadake, Mt. Nakadake, and Mt. Minamidake at Sakurajima.Ontake Distillery was established in 1845 by Nishi Sake Brewery.Now Nishi Sake Brewery is known for selling sweet potato shochu under the brand name of “”Toyoyama””. Also, the company is famous for producing “Tenshino yuwaku”, which won the excellent award in the shochu category at TWSC2020. In addition to whiskey and shochu, Nishi Sake Brewery has expanded into wine in recent years, acquiring New Zealand’s Urlar in 2018. Urlar barrels are placed in the warehouse of Ontake Distillery. However, the company wants each category to be good. They create the high quality whiskey with people who has specialized knowledge in each category.
